Recovering Missing Persons
Training for Autism & Dementia Response
When someone with dementia or autism goes missing, it's not a typical search—and it requires a specialized response.
This course equips law enforcement with the knowledge and tools to recover individuals with disabilities or dementia more quickly, safely, and with fewer resources.
Participants will learn what elopement is, how to approach and communicate with missing persons and their caregivers, and how to build a response plan before the call comes in. The training includes practical safety techniques and helpful resources for officers, families, and support providers.
This course is currently available at no cost to sworn officers or departments in the 10 Southern California counties (Kern and San Luis Obispo and south). Due to grant terms, eligibility is limited to law enforcement personnel in these regions.
