Advocacy & Training Specialist (Hybrid)

The Role

We are looking for dynamic, caring, and creative individuals to join our team of Advocacy & Training Specialists (ATS). As an ATS, you will provide 1-on-1 personal safety training and support services to clients with developmental disabilities, helping them build essential life skills in their everyday environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-person trainings sessions in clients’ homes and community settings

  • Teach topics related to personal safety, healthy relationships and sexuality, self-advocacy, and online safety

  • Provide hands-on individualized support tailored to each client’s needs

  • Track and log training activities, client updates, and complete other administrative tasks (writing meeting notes, submitting training reports, etc.)

Work Schedule & Availability:

  • Work Environment: Training sessions are conducted in the field and administrative duties are completed remotely and independently

  • Part-Time Role: Must have a minimum availability of 20 hours per week to complete 8 trainings per week between Monday – Friday, 12 PM – 6 PM (structured flex schedule); no weekends. Each training session is 1.5 hrs. Clients’ training sessions should conclude by 6 PM

  • Remote administrative tasks can be completed at your convenience outside of client's peak hours

  • Work hours can fluctuate weekly based on client appointments

  • Service Area: Orange County - Buena Park, Garden Grove, Costa Mesa, Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton, Orange, Placentia, and Stanton

  • Your starting location must be no more than a 15 minute drive from the listed cities

No prior experience is required – GET SAFE provides comprehensive onboarding training and ongoing professional development opportunities for our ATS staff to:

  • Teach & positively engage with people with developmental disabilities

  • Gain insight into a variety of special needs & clinical diagnoses (e.g., Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy)

  • Develop adaptable teaching methods to support diverse learners

  • Elevate their communication & customer service skills to foster client relationships

    Enhance their professional writing skills for quality assurance and mandated reporting

Reliable transportation is required for travel to client locations (drive time is paid & mileage is reimbursed). Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of personal auto insurance. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Required Skills:

  • Strong time management & organizational skills (scheduling appointments, balancing training appointments & administrative tasks)

  • Clear verbal & written communication skills in English (report writing, professional interactions, etc.)

  • Strong interpersonal skills (empathy, patience, creativity, & flexibility)

  • Ability to establish professional boundaries with clients and maintain a high level of client-confidentiality

  • Comfortable using virtual communication platforms (Zoom & Microsoft TEAMS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, education, or human services

  • Direct experience working with people with developmental disabilities or other vulnerable populations

  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Word, OneDrive, SharePoint)

  • Bilingual English & Spanish or Vietnamese speaker. Proficiency level: intermediate conversational
