About the Role
The Advocacy & Training Specialist is responsible for working in the field and in-person with State Regional Center clients 1 on 1. Training sessions are conducted in clients’ naturally occurring environments (e.g., in homes or in community settings). Training topics include personal safety, healthy relationships and sexuality, self-advocacy, and online safety. The ATS is also responsible for completing independent remote administrative duties.
The following are position details and qualifications:
Field position: work is conducted in the field and administrative duties are completed remotely and independently
Location: Orange County & Los Angeles County
Part-time; non-exempt; 20-35 hours per week (hours fluctuate weekly based on the frequency of client meetings)
Pay Range: $21 - $23 per hour, depending on experience
Availability: Working hours are flexible Monday - Friday, 12 PM - 6 PM
Willingness to travel to clients’ locations (drive time is paid and mileage is reimbursed)
Service area: Orange County
Must live in Orange County to be considered for this role
Must have valid State issued Driver License, access to a reliable personal vehicle, and proof of vehicle insurance
Must pass background check
Requirements
Required Skills:
Ability to educate, teach, and positively interact with people with developmental disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, etc.)
Time management and organizational skills – scheduling appointments, managing your time with training appointments and administrative tasks to complete tasks efficiently
Clear verbal communication in English
Concise and grammatically correct report writing and other written communications in English
Demonstrated empathy, patience, creativity, and flexibility
Ability to establish professional boundaries with clients and maintain high level of client-confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, education, or human services
1-2 years of direct experience working with people with developmental disabilities or other vulnerable populations
Proficient and comfortable with technology – computers and different software (Zoom, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.)
Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese
